چکیده

Lipid digestion, absorption and transport The processes of digestion and absorption in chickens are similar to those in mammals (see Annison, 1971). However, lipid transport differs between birds and mammals because in chickens the absorbed lipid enters the portal blood system directly as very-low-density lipoproteins, whereas in mammals it passes into the lymph as chylomicra; in chickens the villi do not possess a central lacteal.

Comparative aspects of lipid metabolism: impact on contemporary research and use of animal models.

The emerging obesity crisis and consequent concerns for corrective measures and appropriate public policy have stimulated research into causes, prevention, remediation, and health consequences of obesity and associated maladies. Such research areas include eating behavior, appetite control, and food intake regulation as well as the regulation of lipid metabolism, cardiovascular function, endocr...

Comparative Transcriptomic Exploration Reveals Unique Molecular Adaptations of Neuropathogenic Trichobilharzia to Invade and Parasitize Its Avian Definitive Host

To date, most molecular investigations of schistosomatids have focused principally on blood flukes (schistosomes) of humans. Despite the clinical importance of cercarial dermatitis in humans caused by Trichobilharzia regenti and the serious neuropathologic disease that this parasite causes in its permissive avian hosts and accidental mammalian hosts, almost nothing is known about the molecular ...

Cutaneous xanthogranuloma associated with Klebsiella pneumoniea in a budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus)

Budgerigar is a common name for a colorful Australian native bird belonging to the Melopsittacus undulatus species. It is a very familiar pet around the world and its breeding has been grown in Iran. This study was conducted on a 2-year-old budgerigar with a nodular mass on the left wing. Physical examination revealed a firm, round and well-circumscribed mass approximately 1.70 cm in d...

Lipid transport to avian oocytes and to the developing embryo

Studies of receptor-mediated lipoprotein metabolic pathways in avian species have revealed that physiological intricacies of specific cell types are highly analogous to those in mammals. A prime example for the power of comparative studies across different animal kingdoms, elucidated in the chicken, is that the expression of different lipoprotein receptors in somatic cells and oocytes are the k...

Impact of Reactive Oxygen Species on Spermatozoa: ABalancing Act between Beneficial and Detrimental Effects

Reactive oxygen species (ROS)plays an important role in sperm motility. The physiological generation at low concentration induces beneficial effects on sperm functions and plays a significant role in sperm metabolism. Meanwhile, the excessive generation of reactive oxygen species can overwhelm protective mechanism and triggers changes in lipid and protein layers of sperm plasma membrane, which ...
